I’m having a great time slowly adding handmade items to my soon-to-be-born daughters’ wardrobe. I hacked the Brindille & Twig bodysuit pattern to make this cute little wrap style suit, and I love the way it turned out.
I’m really hoping that the tie closure on this little tummy flap will be sturdy enough. I had to use some cheap ribbon from my stash (I really didn’t feel like heading to the shops), but I guess if it comes apart it won’t be too hard to replace.
I had a total brainfart and didn’t reinforce the jersey in the areas that the press studs would go. Of course, the stud got ripped out of the fabric the first time I tried to open it, so I had to do a bit of a patch repair job. I backed the hole with some iron-on interfacing, then another layer of the jersey, then I stitched over it before replacing the stud.
ALWAYS. REINFORCE.
Lesson learnt!
GARMENT DETAILS
- Pattern brand/name/number: I hacked the Brindille & Twig bodysuit pattern to this wrap style
- Style/size: 3 – 6 months
- Fabric: Cotton jersey and ribbed binding from Spotlight
- Notions: Brass press studs from my stash (I think they were from Etsy), cheap ribbon, matching thread
- Modifications/alterations: I had to draw two new front pieces to make the wrap style, which included changing the neckline and the shoulder seams
I really hope this fits bub well, I’m loving the rust/pink/yellow colourway of this fabric. I have a heap of it leftover, so I’m on the lookout for more cute patterns to make.
